So, how does it sound? Well, it sounds pretty good, but it could certainly be better. Perhaps the most important aspect of any speaker is the audio quality. How Does it Sound? Cory Gunther / Review Geek It’ll take up a lot of room in your backpack or beach bag, that’s for sure.
#JBL CHARGE 5 VS 4 PORTABLE#
Sony says the pentagon design makes it easy to “grab and go,” but it’s roughly twice the size and heavier than many cylinder Bluetooth portable speakers I’ve used over the years.

However, Sony says it doesn’t need a big grill thanks to its “Line-Shape Diffuser” technology that claims to deliver a wide listening area down the entire length of the speaker front and a full 180 degrees, but more on that in a minute. I also wish the design had more fabric for sound output rather than almost the entire device covered in rubber. However, it’s designed as a stand-up speaker. At first, I wasn’t sure if I should stand it up or lay it horizontally for listening. The shape makes it pretty hard to hold with one hand compared to most speakers in this size and price range. JBL Flip 5 vs.While I love this thing’s durability, the pentagon shape is a bit odd. The high-end is where the Flip 5 shines, but as you might expect from a smaller speaker, it's a bit weak in the bass. The Charge 4 is also capable of getting much louder than the Flip 5 thanks to its 30W output, though while its bass is powerful, some have complained that it underperforms in the high end. However, the Flip 5 can be recharged in nearly half the time as the Charge 4. If you're planning on partying all-day outdoors, these advantages can make a huge difference. The Charge 4 has a 20-hour capacity compared to the 12 hours of the Flip 5, and the Charge 4 can also serve as a power bank to charge your other devices - devices like the Flip 5, ironically. The battery capacity and power-sharing feature of the Charge 4 vastly outshine that of the already impressive Flip 5. That may not seem like much in theory, but in practice, it definitely makes one speaker more portable than the other. The Charge 4 is about a half-inch to an inch larger in every dimension, and it weighs a full pound more than the Flip 5. Right off the bat, the biggest difference you're going to notice between these Bluetooth speakers is the size.
#JBL CHARGE 5 VS 4 UPGRADE#
Thanks to an upgrade for the Flip 5, both speakers also now feature USB-C charging so that you can share the same cable as your phone or other portable devices! JBL Flip 5 vs. They're equally suited for long day trips to the beach or backyard barbecues thanks to their extended battery lives, and they both can get incredibly loud for their size. Both have IPX7 waterproofing and can even be submerged up to 1 meter of water for 30 minutes. These devices work well indoors, of course, but they're really meant to shine outside. If you buy directly from JBL, you can even customize your colors and patterns to make your speaker really unique.

Both are available in nearly a dozen fun colors and patterns, including Black Cammo, firey Red, and a really beautiful Ocean Blue. Both sport the tubular 360-degree speaker shape, and both have the red JBL logo front and center.

These two speakers share a common design language that makes them instantly recognizable as JBL devices.
